I'm assuming that they may have worms even though they eat well and swim well... any suggestions and tips on determining whether my FH has worms or not?

if its poo is white and stringy then its internal worms

I believe you're describing another type of parasitic infection that's completely different from worms. What you're describing is hexamita.

@OP: A general rule of thumb, if your fish eats a ton and doesn't seem to gain any weight or seems to only get skinnier, chances are it has worms. The chances of worms are higher when dealing with fish imported from oversea's like from Thailand, Vietnam, China etc. And the more obvious, if your fish has worms coming out of its anus well lol.

Water is right its called hexamita but I thought the white poo was from the worms eating the internal lining of the intestines

The shedding of the intestinal lining is the fish trying to expel the parasites. Most of the worms that plague FH's are nematodes.

Speaking of nematodes, I think my fish has some sort of internal parasite. Not to hi-jack your thread, but I wanted to get more hands on info about the different nematodes. I've researched and read, but I find it easier when someone has dealt with them hands on. I had this problem about a month ago about my fish acting strangely, and I had a feeling it may have been internal parasites, but no signs...until I started seeing the white poo. I started treating the tank with parasite guard because it had metronidazole.

Long story short, my fish's appetite is gone and after treating for 2 weeks, I've noticed a lot of white worms "nematodes?" floating in the water...they look dead. They are not planaria, I know what planaria looks like. Everytime I do water changes it just comes back. What should I be using to treat this?

hmmmm... you are from hawaii as well.. cool man. so am i.. lol. anyway my flowerhorn has a big appetite and doesnt stop eating but i just want to make sure they have nothing internal...what is the best deworming medication y'all prefer?
