I am going to start putting together my planned tank when i get my first pay check :nilly: it will be a 27 gallon "reef" tank and will be attached to a 15 gallon, refugium to grow macro algae and keep a mantis shrimp, the 27 gallon will have 20-30 pounds of LR, and the refugium will have 15-20 (is that enough LR is my only other filtration is protein skimmer and carbon?). i was considering getting a Prizm hob skimmer, so is this enough filtration? i plan on having 6 fish that all get to be 4 inches or less

The filtration you have described is more than adequate for the system you have planed. My only question would be the fish you are considering. In a reef system not all 4" fish are created equal when it comes to the bio-load they produce. 6 may or may not be pushing it depending on the type of fish.
