My turtle is getting rather large, and I am starting to wonder if there are any large turtle pellets, or if I just have to learn how to make my own. I've raised him up on reptomin as a staple, but it's to the point where I can just dump a fist full in his tank.

Seeing how he's only half grown or so, this is probably going to get rather silly rather soon. The pellets them selves are about the size of one of his claws right now.

Just curious on what others with larger turtles feed as a staple

I'm guessing no then, I've never found any on my own. I guess it's getting closer to me leaning how to make pellets

I have a red eared slider and a african side-neck turtle. I used to use reptomin as their staple but now im feeding them salmon, whiting, and bay scallops, along with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, carrot shavings, and beets.

They both take the fish great obviously. The african sideneck eats most of the vegies but the red eared only picks at them. I also did a homemade food with unflavored gelatin, fish, assorted vegies, a little fish stock, and a few strawberries, half a jar of reptomin. I made a jello like food. Now my red eared loved it and my african sideneck ate it most of the time. There was one downside to it, it was extremely messy.

You can also feed a wide variety of fish pellets too. My turtles LOVE Hikari Massivore and the other floating food stick varieties made by them.

Thanks for all the replies. He does get a wide assortment of food from his staple of reptomin, everything my fish don't seem to want to eat. So he does see some hikari gold now and then, along with smelt, tilapia, shrimp, frozen rodents, or whatever is on sale in the frozen seafood section. I've never really wanted to feed him too much fish food though, since I'm sure it doesn't have all the vitamins he needs. I probably worry too much, but I'm going for the long haul, he's around 7 years old now.

I was just seeing if there was some kind of larger pellets, for a staple. I feed him a variety of stuff, but always keep him going with reptomin. I guess I was just looking for something that isn't available to large turtle hobbyists.

It's looking like I'm going to need to have a feeding tank soon too, I don't think he's gonna like chasing down a few hundred pellets in the 300 gallon rubbermaid I'm grabbing later this week
