is there such thing as filtering to much?

i have a 400 gallon pond i just made and i built a filter out of a bucket;

2 blue pads (the normal generic ones)
1 carbon pad
and bio balls

my power head is pulling 750 gallons through it an hour

my friend told me this is over kill, i did not know you could filter something too much, and if you can am i over doing it?

I have 750gl pumps on each one of my 90s and think it's just right.I would say you are way under on the turn over rate and yes you can over circulate the water if you have a lake fish and a turn over rate of more than 10 times

what would be proper filtration for a 4oo gallon pond in your opinion?

without knowing how your pond is stocked, i would be hesitant to say that you are underfiltered.
