Ok not really, but youre here. With all the talk about Brazil opening up everyone is hyped up over the black rays. What about the other rays out of Brazil?

P. cf Hystrix and P. Scobina specifically. Anyone care to speculate about availability and pricing? I'd rather pay $1,000 for a pair of Scobina adults then a single leo.

What about motoros? Are there any really cool variants out of Brazil? Also arent true falkneri out of Brazil too? Would they be showing up?

Kinda curious about this as well, but not getting my hopes up. Seems to me that most stuff is headed to Asia and ANYWHERE but here...... So I'm coloring it the same situation as them nice Marbles I can't get my hands on........LOL

I think it will be good to see what happens when these things actually show up....... All the drama and people running thier mouths about black rays and most are not going to just up and admit they can NOT afford them. Hopefully all the drama will come to an end..... The people that can afford them will be happy, the people that can't will admit they can't and the others will make excuses as to why they don't have them.

I myself just can't justify spending $1K on a ray. $999.99 maybe...... It's just that 4th digit that's a killer. Maybe I'm just too early in the stages of this "disease", maybe after it manifests itself some more then I'll be able to. But right now, NOT owning a house, driving crap, and an uncertain future (fixxing cars) it's just not feasable.

It is odd no one has really even mentioned them. Hystrix and Scobina are really great looking rays and their max sizes are much more manageable. Right before the ban my LFS had true hystrix for just $65!!!

I dont agree that it boils down to who can and can not afford a black ray.

Some people...alot of people, can afford one but cant justify the price. I could drop the money, yeah it be tough but I could, but in the end, to me, no fish is worth that much.

I think true falkneri are found in the southern parts of peru? They are just hard to find. I know of a place over seas that got two of them in about 6 months ago so they can't come from brazil. I would buy one of them over any ray out there.

I never said that's what it boils down to so I hope you weren't referring to what I just said..... I just don't think there's any need for drama being created by people that aren't even in the market.... But I guess it's a public forum so there will always be drama.

The second part hit the nail right on the head.... I could, but I can NOT justify it....... YET. I honestly see myself with Tiggers/Flowers before any black rays. Unless my Marbles start breeding like wabbits.......

I have addressed this a few times.

From what I have been told scobina and hystrix will be allowed only at much smaller sizes and the prices wont be feasible when compared with price of CB pups current prices. I just dont think many importers are going to take the risk when the profit margin is almost 0. I have pretty steady stock coming from Germany, but hardly any interest on scobinas compared to everyone wanted the hystrix. Guess like everything else we will have to wait and see what happens.

PS. I wanted to see a BD haha

What do you mean prices wont be feasible? They use to retail for around $100. Export prices were like $10. The exporters could EASILY get more then $10 now. Why wouldnt they move them? yeah they are no black fish but shoot even if they sold them for $35-50ea for export that is some good money, most fish exported go for WAY less then that.

Or are you saying importers wont risk it because the export costs are so high compared to CB costs?

How much can you get CB scobinas for?

Scobina are really cool rays. They are much more laterally compressed than other rays and they have really cool eyes.

I was once lucky enough to own a pair and unfortunately I lost them both.

Amazing rays should you be lucky enough to snag a pair.

With all the hype for black rays, what will happen when the quotas for them are filled? With the collectors/exporters then focus on the other available rays?

They come from Southern Brazil and Argentina.. Oliver Lucanus at Below Water has been exporting them out of Beunos Aieres the whole time the ban was in place.. just thought I would throw that out there.
