I saw it at my LFS and picked it up cuz I was pretty sure. The owner said it was a "marble angel" lol. I know it's not a recognized species anymore, but does this look like what would be considered a dumerlii? It's about 3" now. I can post more pics if needed. He's living it up in the planted 125. He even hangs out with the altum angels, which are several times his size.

Sweet! I have seen them on the wholesaler stocklist before, but I'm happy with it as an impulse-buy.

The longnose angels are their own species, Pterophyllum leopoldi. We used to call them dumerilii in the hobby but that was also a name given to a scalare variant, so there's some confusion there.

Your fish looks like leopoldi but the best way to know for sure is with the teardrop marking that is characteristic of leopoldi. When the fish is at rest and the bars fade, the teardrop blotch should show at the base of the dorsal fin on the 4th bar.

There are a few scalare variants (like the ones from Rio Xingu) which also have a slightly elongated body and look a bit like leopoldi, so the markings would be the best way to ID them. Can you get some better pictures of the profile view?

Looks like a Leo to me.

This is a P. leopoldi

Notice some wild P. scalare have a similar marking but a noticeably different body type.
