While cleaning the tank on Saturday, I decided that I hated the temperature being 10 degrees over the set point (86 instead of 76), so I unplugged the heater entirely.
Since then, my tank seems to be staying around 74 degrees. Is that good for my fish species? Should I get a heater rated for a smaller tank just for some temp support?
Tank stock is:
1 leporinus fasciatus
1 Jack Dempsey
1 convict
1 blood parrot
1 krib cichlid
1 giant danio
2 Aussie rainbowfish
3 Buenos Aires tetras
1 striped Raphael cat

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't go any lower and the fish should be fine.

I’m gonna keep monitoring. If it keeps dropping I’ll plug the heater back in or get a new one.
Nice thing about the tank being up against a window: natural heating.
Bad thing: algae, evaporation, too much natural heating.

74F is mid range for tropical species. I see most of the fish there that can thrive in 70F. The Krib and blood parrot are the only ones that I am not sure if they are comfortable at a lower temperature.

Fish go through seasonal temperature swings in the wild so I completely ditched using heaters since my place only swings between 70-80f and all my "tropical" stuff has been fine. I wouldn't try it with Discus or Hoplarchus psittacus etc. but I'm 99% sure you should be fine.
