Can someone help me identify this fish.

My midas cichlid died last week. My father worker feed it with a house gecko when i am not around. So I decided to buy a new fish. I got this guy last august 3 and the seller claim he is a flowerhorn. I laugh in my mind since i am sure he is not a flowerhorn. I think this guy is either midas or red devil that not yet on peel. Or something else? What do you think guys?

All I can say is that it’s a cichlid, hope they didn’t overcharge you lol

It looks like a member of the genus Amphilophus, which is one species used to create FHs.
It may yet turn out to be a FH, but in truth..... what is a FH?
It's not a true species, because it's a hybrid (a mutt), a man made induced creation by breeding 2 (or more) species together.

Above is a true cichlid, Amphilophus amarillo.
When young, almost all Amphilophus species look alike.

One thing to consider, when breeding 2 species together, about 30 to 40% will look a lot like the mother, 30-40% will look like the father.
So when creating a the glitzy fish know as a FH, the breeder will need to cherry pick individuals from a pool of only most 20 to 30% that resemble a FH.
If not grown out enough to mature into those glitzy colors, the breeder can't tell what it will look like.
So simply calling arandom hybrid a FH, is a bit of an oxymoron, although many amateur breeders seem to be doing just that..
