I was at LFS yesterday & they had a some fish labeled flowerhorn, so I bought one & I really don’t know much about what they look like as babies can some tell me if this is a FlowerhornIMG_4581.jpeg

Most cichlid fry look the same, silver with black bars.
We won't be able to say anything till it gets some size. If it peels or not etc won't happen till around the 3inch mark or so. That's when a good portion of cichlids begins to mature.

For example not a FH but an Amphilophus, a typical fish used in the creation of a FH.

These Amphilophus Saggitae are starting to peel already at the 2in size.
And one of the 5 white/silver black ones turned into this.

Also starting to see alot of 1 to 2 inch Red Texas going around. A friend of mine bought 12 and grew out in a 300 tub over the summer. Not 1 turned out.

Looks like your standard low grade baby fh to me, sometimes you get lucky and there stunners though so you never know

Most of the Amphilophus family will fit that requirement. Anytime I even moved he would have to come check out what's up. Spit sand at me when I fill in his pits...

He would even attempt to attack my bird and vise versa...

The key is being a single fish so his attention is on you and not a mate / tankmates
