is this a gold jag? The guy at my local fish store went on about how rare it is. Just wondering if he gave me accurate info or a load of bs. Thanks for your replies.

Yes it's a gold jag , here's a pic of one of mine 20160615_163243.jpg

The gold managuense is a naturally occurring morph in the wild. It's not common. Many years ago, Jeff Rapps got them in and bred them back into the hobby. They were hot for a while then fell off the map. Here's my pair from several years ago.Gold Managuense 215b.jpg

The fish has since been imported from breeders in the Czech Republic where they have been line breeding the fish for years. The latest "version", and no doubt what you saw in the LFS, was that fish. It probably came from Segrest Farms. I got mine from Segrest for a photo shoot. Here's the largest male. The biggest difference that I can see is a lack of any of the Aztec markings...just solid gold.

I had a normal color pair of manganese back in the 80s, and small portion of each of their spawns would be gold. Maybe half dozen, and I saved few from one of the spawns, and grew them to adult size. When the gold pair spawned together the first time, 20%-30% of their spawn was gold, the rest normal.
I used most as feeders, because they appeared to me as just a simple generic Parachromis, in the same manner as albino do, which am not a fan of.
