Hey everyone. When my brother moved to Dallas, he had to get rid of all his saltwater tanks. He's now moving back to the Bay Area and my sister and I want to get him started on fish again. I saw this ad on craigslist and was wondering if it was a good deal? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/spo/631534976.html I have a 240 gallon but it was given to me so I don't really know the cost. The 250 gallon looks acrylic. I e-mailed the seller and he e-mailed back saying he was going to call me tomorrow morning. One of the things I'm worried about is that he has the tank standing up on its' side. I heard that it isn't good for glass or acrylic tanks to have all its' weight on one side. Is that true? Thanks, The Doctor.

There's no issue with a properly constructed tank sitting on its side, as long as it sitting on a flat surface and there are no objects underneath, including small pieces of stone. As for acrylic, it would scratch really easily so I wouldn't advise it at all.

I do believe that's a glass tank otherwise you'd think he'd have it for sale as an acrylic tank. The sump does look like acrylic. I wouldn't say it's a great deal, but it's fair.

How thick is it?

I didn' ask. I will ask him all the questions tomorrow. Does it look like a glass tank?

looks acrylic to me, very clear, lots of plumbing drilled into it, black overflow box on one side, no tank frame, and propped up on its side(something that most dont do with glass tanks). plus its pretty pricey for a used glass tank if its glass.

800 seems pricey for a used tank; whether its glass or acrylic. offer him $400, and bargain from there

I heard somewhere, "never pay more than $1/gal for a used tank". make a low offer, and strike a deal!

never pay asking price. BARGAIN FOR THAT *****!

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to offer him $450. If he wants more than $500, I'm just going to wait him out. If he agrees good, if not I'll keep looking. Thanks, The Doctor.
