i was considering keeping new fish, as i've had tanganyikans for a while now. i went to my lfs just now and talked to the owner. i was wondering if this is a good deal. he offered me $200 in store credit for my fish. this includes 4 fronts(about 3 inches), 2 spawning leleupi - and 10 of their offspring (about 1.5 inches). should i pass or is this reasonable? i'm not sure what the going price is for fish in other places, but he has some fronts for sale (slightly smaller than mine) for $59 each. i understand he needs to make a profit. (i bought my fronts for about $4 each because the fish store people thought they were kenyi cichlids ROFL.

Really depends on what you're willing to let them go for. Fish stores around here give half credits for trade-ins. Let's just assume that he sells your fronts for $80 each...that's $40 credit that you would usually receive around here per fish. That comes out to be $160 for just those four fish alone. You're getting $40 for the your group of leleupi (pairs are sold at around $40 around here, and the young that size are around $10 each). That group alone is worth $140 and even if you received half credit, that's $70. Tack that onto the $160 and you end up w/$230.

Just depends on how much you value that extra $30 (this number is dependent on how much he sells fronts at the size you mentioned yours are at). If he sells them at those fronts at $65 then he breaks even...any more than that and he gains (he gains less I should say, since he's already gained some from the half credit that's he's giving you).

*Sorry, but had to use prices around here for the leleupi...

If it were me, I'd probably ask him to up it by 10% to 220 and see what he says. In the end, I'd take the $200 if he doesn't up it since I don't like fronts (actually prefer moori...).

Remember that if you are getting credit, the store makes a profit twice over - on what you sell them and on what they sell you (which is why shops prefer to offer credit rather than cash ;-) ). This is not to say that you should or shouldn't do a deal like this - it would be silly for me to try to advise you from the other side of the world.

that´s true,
different countries - different prices

Also, there are many different Frontosa species. For some you will find no one to buy them, others are very expensive and rare.
