I have a 240 gallon aquarium with a red tail giant gourami (17 inches) and 7 bichirs (between 9 and 17 inches.) I have wanted to add more active fish for a while but i never really saw anything i liked until I made an impulse buy at the LFS the other day. the two new fish are in a separate growout tank with a divider. A 3 inch trimac and a red terror. I was going to wait until the cichlids are closer to the 5 or 6 inch mark and then add them at the same time to the main tank.

anyone else have a mix like this or any suggestions on when the cichlids would be big enough to put in the main tank?

It will be quite a while until the red terror is ready. And the trimac I have no experience with growth, I've only had mine about 2 weeks. Red terrors and trimacs both are pretty aggressive. My 4" trimac chases my 6" Red Devil all over the tank constantly. I have no experience with gouramis but it needs to be able to hold its own. I'm sure the bichirs will be fine.

is the red terrors growth rate similiar to a green terror? if that is the case it will be quite a while...

Anyone else keep a red tail giant gourami with cichlids?
