Is this a good nitrate test kit?

The Blue one from Doc Wellfish, with two drop bottles, 10 drop from the first, 10 drops from the second.

Whenever I do the tests, the colors I get don't really match up with the color chart at all and it is hard to get my reading. I have done this many times before against a white background.

Anybody else with the same experience?

That would be the kit made by API, which I personally do not like. If you have trouble with the colors, you might consider trying Salifert test kits.

Yeah, they are OK for a ballpark reading. For example, on the API test kit an orange color between 10ppm and 20ppm, would be guessed at 15ppm. I prefer the tests by LaMotte or Hach. They are lab quality and highly accurate. Never tried Salifert, but I've heard others say they were good.
