I didnt see this in the article, but don't overfeed hatchlings, I've heard from many people that their babies died after being offered a lot of food.
Depending on the species, your area may be a little too cold in winter.

I was thinking about the Florida softshell.

I know the spiny and smooth softshells would work year round since that care sheet says they can be found in canada/minnesota.

The caresheet also says it wouldn't hurt to have them in brackish water.

I never used brackish, unless its a terrapin. Mine did fine, spent six years in fresh before I moved. I would be wary of the lows in the winter. florida softies get big and mean.

So I should be fine with a spiny or smooth in freshwater outdoors year round right?

Thank You.

there are also chinese and asain softshells i think the largest species of softshells lives in india ive always wanted to catch a wild one i always look for them when i go to the colorado river

don't do brackish unless it has a fungal infection and even then do a VERY mild brackish. keep them on a sand substrate and only one per 1000 gallons or so. you should do fine.

HOW do they hibernate? burried in bank?

I like them being able to survive in my climate.
