Found these at work and was wondering if I could use them in my Sump?

The other Q could be... "How can you tell if a Sponge is Aquaria safe"?

The ones im thinking of using for Mecha. Filtr. are actually about 1/2" thick and square.
The circles I was thinking of adding to the devider right before the Pump.

Thanks

it probably matters what it was used 4 and im thinking that if you cut it up into like 2 by 2 inch squares itd b ok ?not sure

I just got a bunch of a similar foam out of a camera case. It's open-celled and I've been soaking it in water for days to see if it falls apart. So far so good. It doesn't appear to be leaching anything oily either. My next test is to add it to my guppy tank and see what it does. That's all the intel I've got on case foam.

I'm also still torn on whether to use them as bio or mech.

i would probably try soaking one in a bucket for a couple weeks to make sure they dont fall apart, dont know how dense it is but you could probably run some tests on a spare tank or something to find out. also what were they used for at work- you wouldnt want to put any contaminates in your tank. cool scar by the way! lol

Oops, forgot to say we order them like that. They are brand new. I'll try to snap a pic just for the curious ones :D

They def don't fall apart. We use them at work n they last forever (thats not why we buy them Lol).

What test besides if they leak something in a spare tank would you look for?

If, say, a test guppy dies for no other reason than potential toxicity.

So could it work for bio, then?
it could work for both but 4 mechanical itd b better for you to rip it into 1/4ths
