Picked this guy up at my lfs labeled as a Flowerhorn. They all seemed low quality compared to what you think of when you think of a Flowerhorn. But he was only 10 bucks. I figured what the heck, I have an empty 75. Just curious what everyone's opinion is. Flowerhorn? Trimac? Hybrid of both? BTW this is my first post here on monster fish keepers. Thanks in advance for any input.

Looks like a Trimac Hybrid FlowerHorn but you would have to find out who bred the mix to know for sure what is the mix.

This^ but he/she looks very beautiful. Low quality? Imo for what it is it's not low quality. Low quality flowerhorn's usually look deformed or just plain ugly, they are the flowerhorn in the batch that should have been culled. This is not an ugly fish. it just looks more trimac than anything without being a pure trimac.

Technically a 'low quality' flowerhorn is much hardier and healthier than most 'high quality' flowerhorns.Being bred in a tight gene pool results in many health problems, one of the newer ones being the 'turbo gene' (enlarged belly)it's nothing more than a genetic abnormality. Nonetheless he/she's a beauty ,good luck with growing him/her out. Will also end up having a much longer lifespan :).

I really appreciate all the feedback! I've done a lot of research on him myself, and it looks like he's going to be more Trimac than anything. Currently eating like a pig on blood worms, tubifex worms, sinking carnivore pellets, and he's eating all my plecos algae wafers. Still too little to get some of the shrimp that I have. Either way I'm hoping with a well-rounded diet he turns into a stunner. I will post pictures as he grows and you can help me decide what he looks like more.
