Is this a Mala or Curupira??

Purchased this 12" "wolf" at a LFS

He was kept in with Piranhas and was having a really horrible time of it all.

I assumed it was just a Mala, but someone mentioned that his jaw structure is more like a Curupira.

Anyone shed some light on the matter?





(the pieces of filter are not in the tank anymore, I knocked them in off the cover glass when cleaning)

He is in an 800 litre with 2 X 12" Dats and a large Gibbi.

Looks mala to me.

If you can look at the lower jaw at the pores, and see if it is in a patch versus a singular line.

Thank you, so just to confirm I am looking for the spots on the lower jaw to be in patches rather than just 1 row of spots? Will look when I go home as he likes to lie at the front of the tank thankfully

Appears to have mottled spots on the lower jaw, does this mean that its a black wolf or just a mala?

Actually it's definitely not a curu. But head doesn't match a typical Mala....

Bumpy bump... just Mala then? Any updates as wold fish are not my forte

Hey u need to get a pic of the fish's bottom jaw. The folds and number of grouping of pores on the bottom can help to get an ID.
