Is it find rot? I thought some other fish just bit on his fin. Yeah he doesn't look great but I was going to try to heal him up. What do you think the hollow belly is from?

I don't see evidence of fin rot, it looks like a fish that has been beat up and harassed. Clean water, some kosher salt, and a good diet and he should bounce back in time. With fish in this condition I like to feed NLS Hex-Shield for a few days, just to clean them out. A follow up with PraziPro wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Thanks! I had the same line of thinking with the exception of prazipro so I'll add that. The lfs had him with 2 14 inch Oscars and admitted that they thought he might harass the Oscars but the albino beat him up real bad. They even had melafix in the water.

The edges of those fins are braking down so It is the early stages of fin rot... The fins haven't yet developed a secondary fungal infection but if left untreated it will.

To be honest, I have never had a fish with fin rot before so it just looked like his fins got bitten up. Are you positive it's fin rot or can I wait a bit to see how it goes? I hate over treating fish with chemicals.

Clean water, kosher salt, quality food, is all you need for now. Just follow my previous directions, don't waste your money or put your fish or filters through the stress of anti-bacterial meds, when no bacterial infection is showing. There are currently no "fin rot" issues with this fish, it just needs to have it's natural immune system kick in now that it has been removed from it's previous stressful environment. In other words, KISS.

I advised the Hex-Shield & PraziPro as I treat all fish coming in from parts unknown, especially when showing a slightly concave stomach.

Just keep an eye on the fins and do plenty of water changes... if it deteriates then you'll have to try a treatment like Esha2000... This fish is in a very poor way. needs lots of TLC to get him right.
