Would anyone care to elaborate on how to determine the sex?

Females will have quite a bit more blue markings under the eye and on the gill plate, most of the time in the form of "smudges". Males, like the one pictured here, will have either nothing or just a few small blue spots. Males will often have more pointed dorsal and anal fins as well...
