I don't see it. Looks very Midas to me due to the build. However, as we do not know the origin of this fish 95% will be a hybrid. Grow that little SOB out. Has a nice tall and solid build.

it looks completely midasy to me but its the spots that have me all weird:screwy:. the fish is wild caught here in miami canals, if it is a hybrid what could it be crossed with? is it worth getting it really?

Could cross with any of the other stuff that is dumped in the canals around there. Flowerhorns, texas, red devils, mayans.... and so on. Looks like a cool fish though.

When I say Cross I mean a Red Devil/Midas cross. I have grown out several that have had the dot like stripes. Give it time and most likely it will peel and change color. With a solid build like that I would definently grow it out. Might get lucky and its the ofspring of a real midas. You just never know with those canals if it was a offspring of a pure fish, or a offspring of a petsmart hybrid.

i dunno ive never seen such weird natives in a tank before. This is some guys tank that has a bunch of native canal fish and all his midas in there are weird looking, theres this one, then theres one that looks gold , just a bunch of weird stuff. ill make a post with a full tank shot to see if im the only one that thinks they are weird. They look like they are hybrids a bit.

The age old question, is it a Midas or a Red Devil is usually best answered with "Yes."

Whenever the LFS's around here actually get in non-hybrids they look funny to everyone because we've all gotten used to seeing weird patterns and hybrids. I would say its a hybrid of some sort, but who knows.
