I think the top is a female and the bottom a male. What do some of you guys that keep Yellow Top Hongi's think? Even if you don't keep them and know help me out.

I have never seen a Yellow Top Hongi look the the second one you have. I didn't know they got that purple without the bars. Sorry I can't be of much help. Just to say that if you have a female you will likely find out fairly soon. (And remember these aren't pairing fish...)

I do know they are not pairing fish. Just meant male and female. If so I would like to add 4 more females to the mix. Make him a happy camper.

The top fish looks like a female M. Greshaki to me. Hard to tell with the bottom fish without getting a good view of the mouth. Both fine fish but not of the same species in my opinion

Tthe bottom fish looks like a Pseudotropheus sp. "Perspicax Orange Cap"

Compare pictures of my male / female (had been in the tank for just 1 hour, so not really nice colors)

If your male is an Orange cap, then you have the wrong female...
