Is This A Parasite or Fungus or Neither?

Can anyone help me out with my sick salvini cichlid? In the attached pics you can see at the base of his tail there is a white spot or lump that protrudes out. This spot wasnt here until 2 days ago and it seems to be getting larger. He is still eating fine and trying to breed with the female so his behavior isnt that of a sick fish... What is the spot and how should i treat it? Thanks all. By the way the pair is in a 75 gal tank and i just bought them from a guy in town a few weeks ago.

A lot of fish seem to get this and I'm not really sure what it is. It may just resolve on it's own. Anchor worm sometimes looks like it but I don't think that's what this is. I suspect it's either viral or a local infection like a pimple. You could add some salt to the water 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons and watch it to if anything changes over the next few days.
