Definitely a short body FH

The short body gene comes from parrot fish, if any of the literature is to be believed, fh wouldn't even be possible without parrot's...

Or the trimac. Evident parrot genes usually have a wider cheek area. But your right. It can still be a parrot gene.
But it can just as easily be the trimac gene.

The way you worded it made it seem as if all short body flowerhorns get their "short body" gene from the bp. But I know you have knowledge on short bodies and you know that pure fish create short bodies without bp genes within them. I've seen your threads also so I don't want to elaborate on that but I do have a question... Has anybody ever owned/seen a pure bred short body trimac?

I believe all fh do get their sb genes from parrot. Every other sb gene I've seen is a recessive. In fh it shows up in the first generation, regardless if both parents carry the gene, which makes it a dominant or co-dominant trait. Yet to see anything different. I could elaborate on what the literature says, but I'd prefer not to derail this thread.

Interesting chart...

He's really fat, I guess I feed him to much...but his mouth looks very beaky, a lot like my blood parrot. I will upload a pic of them next to each other. Honestly, I paid 9 dollars from him at a LFS in Venice, CA, but he was about the size of a quarter. He is now just a bit smaller then my palm. I think it is a male, since my managuense x convict female loves to cuddle up with him and shows mating quirks towards it. Also, is there anyway to predict if his kok will continue to grow. Thank you everyone!
