Is this a red devil it looked different from the others in the tank that looked like red devils. This is taller and brighter yellow. The others where longer and more peach colored. The mouth isn't as pointy as the others, it almost has a ram shaped slope to the head. It also has red eyes can't recall if the others did.

This is a petsmart fish and I usually don't frequent there but I was killing some time at lunch. The guy was very nice and was actually knowledgeable to my surprise (typically they aren't at this particular store). I asked him if it was a red devil and he sort of shrugged his shoulders and said "weeellll it came in labeled as red devil, as you can see it doesn't look like the others. I would suspect a red devil hybrid."

Sorry for bad quality pics. It is a cool looking fish and am tempted to pick it up.

Also will the black fade with age if it is a red devil?

Texas? like a red texas/ red devil mix? I went on google in midas looks like the same coloring. I know red devil and midas are often inter bred.

In the little bit of reading I have done in the past 15 minutes I think I will pass. As nice as this fish is I want to leave room for for my Green terror, Severum and Texas to grow. As it is I may have to separate them as adults. It's a shame cause this fish really is a beauty.

Couldn't stop thinking about this fish last night for $5 I cant go wrong. Just hoping it get along with my Texas who is a little larger. If he/she messes with me texas it is out. If it is still at the store I will pic it up at lunch.

I am guessing it is more midas than red devil with the research I have been doing. Also this fish has red eyes, the midas I see online don't have red eyes. does the eye color give anyone a clue of what it might be?

I'd honesty say midevil, without knowing where it came from its more than likely a mutt. I've seen Midevil that have dark coloration on them and it either changes or stays with them as they grow

I'm ok with a mutt. I will probably be able to tell more as it grows correct?

Being that petsmart sells both red texas and flowerhorns I would guess it is one of these but a clearer pic is needed for us to help nail it down. Both of these hybrid fish often have red eyes. I live up in washington state and bought a flowerhorn that came into them as a jack dempsey. They knew what it was and laughed because policy said leave it in with what it was labeled as. It was killing the jd's off one at a time until i got it for 4.99.
