Not quite sure of the name..... Would like some advice on suitable tankmates because she is getting to be more aggressive the bigger she gets.

(If for some reason no picture comes up, she is the colorful yellow fish in my gallery) Not having luck with this picture thing.....

You mean temperament wise? Have had her for awhile and she has spent the last couple mo's in "fish purgatory." Been considering taking her in because she gets along with nothing...... Doesn't even take awhile for her to adjust she just immediately fights and caused problems. Any advice or feedback would be appreciated! She is nice to look at......

Yup they can get pretty nasty!!! Especially when breeding kinda like a convict!!! Maybe get her a Male a put her in a different tank and try your luck in breeding!!!

With as territorial as she his how big of a tank would be necessary? Have a 45 gal and a 30 gal open.....

get a male, and stuff them into the 30.

Cute female!

salvinis are hot.

May have to give this a shot. She has lost alot of her color since she's been by herself. Not sure if it's because she's unhappy (as in, has no one to fight with) or if they loose their color as time goes on. Will keep you updated on how things go with her. Thanks for the advice!

first I want to ask what are the dimensions of your 30 and 45 gallon tanks? chances are the 30 will work for a while but will eventually become too small for a breeding pair. if the 45 is the same footprint as a 55 only shorter then it would be much better for the long run. males can reach 8" rather easily and have been reported to grow even larger. also, if you get a male you'll want to get one just a little bit larger than she is and I'd move them into the new tank together. better still would be to get 2-3 males so that she can choose a mate. simply putting a male and female together will not always lead to a breeding pair.

chances are the color loss is due to the fact she has no one to show dominance over. ca/sa cichlids use their colors to communicate with one another and the more dominant fish in a group will have the darkest and or brightest colors. put a couple males in with her and her colors will probably turn even brighter than you'd ever seen on her before in attempt to attract one of the males to pair with her. :)
