Is this a Spotted or a Florida Gar?

I've had this fish for a few years. It was sold to me as a spotted gar, but I'm not sure if it's a spotted or a Florida. He is currently about 18" long. What do the resident gar experts think?

hey KP,

given the size and age (at least for as long as you have had it) of the fish, and the pictures here, i would say it's a Florida gar. the fish has made that transition from the younger smaller fish that would have a narrower snout, to the more sub-adult/early adult fish, which has a much broader snout. hope that helps, and great looking fish!--

Nice fish. Wish mine was colored like that, guess that's what happens when you catch 'em in a swamp like area.
