Is this a stingrays Barb? Do they "lose" them?

Found this in my tank. I have a BD male about 14" and a motoro about 10" both are swimming fine and eating like pigs as usual. Other tankmates are also displaying normal behavior. No one appears to have been attacked by the rays or anything so I'm stumped on where this came from. Google wasn't much help so I'm asking here.
 
No pic...but yes, rays regularly shed their barbs. Mine shed them about every 4 months. You'll usually see your ray will have two barbs and the one that's about to shed will get white at the base. Anytime after that it will be coming off. I try to keep a close eye on shed barbs and keep them picked up. I have a whole collection of them. Nice little souvenir!
