I'm not sure where this post belongs but this seems like a good a place as any.i have a rock in one of my tanks(recently set-up) and my fish are dropping like flies.I noticed a lot of pyrite in the rock and am thinking that maybe this is bad.Any geologists out there?

Howdy,

Pyrite (FeS2) can be toxic, especially in the lower pH range! Get it out of your tank!

Good advice on rocks," when in doubt take it out," I hope the tank recovers!

just a tip, i test all new equipment on some guppies first (better they die that something else)

I completely agree with DeLgAdO.

It is absolutely unethical to distinguish between species when it comes to unnecessary fish death. And this is more than unnecessary. Get equipment you can rely on. If you have doubts about decor, your gut is probably right: Don't use it. Period.

Animal studies have an important place in science, but not in our hobby!

If your tank was fine before the rock and now fish are dying....Take the rock out! If there is a doubt about something get it out of your tank quick and do a thorough cleaning and a water change ASAP!
