Hey there everyone

I decided to make a new post since my other post is dead and I now have more information to relay. I also need your help on if you think I'm taking the right route to fix this. Here's the link to my original post for those interested...

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327083

For those too lazy to go there here's the deal. My SEN developed a bump on it's back and seems to have lost movement in the Back 1/3 of his body. He wasn't showing any bloat, but As time went on he seems to be bloating now.. On top of that he now has 3-4 little black scales on his body. I've examined him and there's no visible external parasites in those spots just black marks.

I went and talked to a really knowledgeable owner of My LFS and he said it may be bloat, an ulcer, or even an Internal Parasite. He recommended quaratine and dose with Erythromyacin and Metrodizanole(sp.)

As of now he's quarantined and being treated with ERYTH. I ordered the METRO. but it won't be here til Monday. Do you guys have anything to add. Please help my out, Thanks. I included some new pics in the link below.

Update to those that care. It's day three of the ERYTH. treatment. It doesn't seem to be doing anything. The METRO will be here on Mon. I also heard that if he does have an internal parasite MARACYN 1 and MARACYN 2 are good to use. Can anyone speak on this, Thanks.

Well the Erythromyicin did not do anything. The Maracel 1 & 2 also didn't work.:(:(:( My Bichir is now having trouble getting to the top of the water for air. I feel so bad for him. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(. To all those that responded in the other thread I thank you for your help, It was much appreciated, but I feel the only thing I can do is to Euthanize.:(:(

Only advice I can offer is to give him some more time. You don't want to euthanize unless you're 100% sure theres no chance for recovery. I hope he pulls through for you

I have added a tad bit of salt. But right now just more Meds. His normal Temp was 79.9, but in the QT i upped it to 83.5. Do you think I should raise the temp more? How much salt should I be adding. I'm Gonna dose maracyn 1 and 2 (again) this week and if he doesn't make a recovery I'm going to put him down. If you guys could see him in real life, you would see why I feel it's the only possible solution. Also I'm pretty sure he has DROPSY, not bloat. I wish some people here could help me out on this.

if the pics would work it would help us give you answer... but if it seems like its not going to make it, take it out into a separate container and dose it with clove oil to put it out. then put him in the freezer. sorry to say.

WHAT!!! THE PICS DON'T WORK!! I didn't realize that. How do I post pics. I included the URL to my Flickr page. please let me know if u still cant see them. Those pics are a week old, his situation is worse. He cant use the back half of body AT ALL. His lump is also bigger and showing signs of reddening on the the bump and tail. LET ME KNOW IF THIS LINK WORKS! thanks.

iono from what scales look like, it kinda looks like his back is broken. im not 100% sure though. could be bloat. iono .

EXACTLY! A broken back is what I've thought from the get go, but after talking to some people they said it wouldn't hurt to try to medicate for dropsy and bloat. The meds have done nothing, and watching him trying to swim around makes me feel HORRIBLE. I'm torn on what to do. If his back is indeed broken, what would some of you guys do? Let him live his life in pain and barely able to get to the water surface for air, or put him down humanely? And as I said, I don't wanna do it but I can't bear to see him like this.
