Ah-kay. So about 6 months ago I gave in and bought the cutest li'l black ghost knife fish you've ever seen. $20 in Australia for a baby (2" I think) is pretty darn cheap, and I looked them up. Kept him in a li'l tank with some tiny gouramis knowing I was getting a bigger tank in a couple of months.
So I had him a week when I came home from university and found him dead, with the tip of his tail stuck in a TINY crack in my filter. I actually cried.

Now, I don't know if this is a common problem - I've looked everywhere and haven't been able to find anything, so I figured a thread was necessary.

I'd like to try again - keep a new little one in my pearlscale goldfish tank (15 gallons, but I'm overfiltering) with my kuhli loaches and a titchy little bristlenose. This would be temporary until he was a bit bigger and could fit in with my severums in my 100 gallon. My sevs are about 5"/6" (f/m).

What do you think? Should I try it again?

He probably died 1st and that was the reason he was partially sucked into the filter. I seriously doubt it's anything you did wrong and I'd try again. I got mine 9 months ago at 4", just measured him the other day when I moved him and he's 9" now. Keep in mind they like temps above 78 degrees. Not sure what you keep your Goldie tank at.

Thanks for the quick replies!
I keep all my tanks just on 30 degrees Celsius. I think ick just proliferates in my house, so I just keep the tanks warm (I'm in cairns, Australia, so the water is usually about that during the day even without heaters)
I think I will try again - unless a bgk is going to hurt my kuhlis or goldies.
Thanks for the info - though i'm willing to hear from others, too!

i would be tempted to put it in with the severums as i dont think they will bother a bgk or anything for that matter.
