I'm thinking about putting a 125G tank on my stairs--on a landing midway up my stairs to be precise. My contractor says the stairs will hold the weight, no problem . My plan is to build the tank stand so that it spans two steps on the landing. Basically, I have a landing that is comprised of two 40"X40" stair steps, one about eight inches higher (one step) than the other. I think I can build a stand with 4 long 4x4s on one end and 4 eight-inch shorter 4x4s on the other. If the top is all tied together, and I tie the bottom of the shorter side to the longer legs, is there any reason this wouldn't work? Am I trying to talk myself into something crazy? Anyone ever see or try something like this?

Sounds feasible... Only problem I can see would be, if you've got a tank blocking your stairway, how are you going to fall down them when drunk?

I fully concur with Ghengis on this topic!!! lol just tie the top together then the bottom , fill with water then fish and before you know it you're all done questioning yourself and everyone says wow! did you do that?

While it sounds cool I imagine it being a serious pain when you need to move things up and down the steps. I'm guessing you'll find it's more in the way.

Sounds like a good idea, but its hard to tell without knowing the layout of your stairs. I have seen houses with HUGE landings between stairs, and if this is the case I think its a cool idea. Any chance of drawing up a to scale drawing of your plans?

THAT-is EXACTLY what I asked myself.

Can you post pictures of the spot?

Go for it if you think you have the room. 40" by 40" seems like enough space to do it. Great idea!
