forgive me for asking this question but i watched a video of an arrowana on you tube eating a duckling!!..i love these fish ....they look amazing and i realise in nature they would prey on all sorts of animals..but is this the norm with arrowana keepers or is this person twisted...this video is horrible and shows a live duckling being drowned by the fish before i presume it ate it...just out of interest what do the yfeed on in aquariums?..please don't say ducklings!

I believe it is cruel but that is my opinion. Sure people can argue that if it happens in nature it is fine, I don't feel that way. I don't even feed my fish feeders though.

out of the norm for arowana keepers IMO.

The wild argument is complete BS. Last time I checked the "wild" isn't an indoor container.

I wouldn't do it, but I have no problems with feeder fish.

When I had my 15" beast of an oscar, a friend of mine kept telling me I should feed it baby mice. Which always made me think...why? When I asked him that, he said "To see if it'll eat it!" I just looked at him for a few seconds and said "I'm going to need a better reason than that." I never did :grinno:

Unnecessary IMO, plenty of pellet alternatives

kool. i feed alot of different feeders for my gar. my grandfathers pond has catfish and bass that eat ducklings all the time. out of one of his macovy ducks hatchs none survived. it had about 8 ducklings.
i feed
guppies
rosy reds
goldfish
frogs
tadpoles
shrimp
and just about any other small fish i can get that is healthy(wild caught)

:( poor duckling. fish eat fish. many were bred for that very reason. but mice and ducks and stuff is just not right...its a tank not the wild.

Hmmmm, i think of myself as a pretty tough person when it comes to feeding live food. It does not bother me to watching a fish eat a live animal.

But using a animal with a happy long life ahead of him such as a cute baby duck as live food, that crosses the line in my opinion, i would rather use a mouse or rat or something....

oh and joworth
