I noticed my ray is lifting his disc near his tail, only once this morning. I took a picture, but can't attach the photo for some reason. the usual "manage attachment" method does not work, so i'll try photbucket.

The disc is NOT phisically curling, He is eating fine, Water is good and filtration is good.
Temp is 80, I do 50% WC x 2 / week
At the LFS, the motoro was kept in sand bottom tank, is WC, and had been at the LFS for 5 months, and feeding well.

First link is ray looking normal

Second pic shows disc lifting

I hope this is not death curl.

dont take this as an answer , just my observations. as all rays have funny habits yours might just like holding his disc like this. they also do this when they are about to poo! is yours producing healthy solid excrement or is it white and stringy? if the latter it may just be struggling to go to the loo!

my male motoro did this shortly before showing signs of disc rot.
also i noticed a small mark/damage on the front right of the disc. the disc rot started like this and then progressed to a white/lack of colour edge to the whole disc.
my water parameters where also fine and i was carrying out 30-50% water changes 3 times a week. the good old raised temperature/ salt worked a treat and was gone after a week.
but dont rush into things and start treating like most of the other people on here who pump there tank full of treatments without a proper diagnosis.

just keep an eye out for the white edging i mentioned.

the rest of your fish look superb ny the way so i would not worry about the ray , as long as he is feeding well with all those dats then you should be fine.

hope that helps

Thanks for that...the little damamge u noticed happened after his first night in the tank. He was harassing my female retic, which took a swipe at him. I'm not worried about this though as waterchanges will clear it up. and it is getting better by the day. No need for meds yet.

I'm hoping the raising of disc is just a odd habit..:)

With all those tigers, I have to spend careful time feeding, i.e. layer feeding, marinate frozen feeding, and use tongs.

doesn't look like it and death curl is around the entire disc not just the rear section.

thanks pounder.

lifting up the rear or front lip of the disk is sometime caused by a change in PH

if concerned do a water change thats what works for me

Doesn't look like it to me - I would just do a water change, keep a check on water parameters and keep an eye on him.

Will do T1. the last 2 days, I did 50% wc each day. Will do a 3rd 50% wc tonight also.

No meds or salt will be added.
