is this diatom algae?if not what is it because I want to get rid of it. It is so hard to clean off the tank, green algae wipes right off not this i need to scrub it. I just put my UV light on about 2 days ago just to see if it would help FYI I know it will not get the ones on the glass only the free floating ones. Figured it couldn't hurt. I looked online and could not find any pictures like mine. The substrat is caribsea cichlid sand dont know if there is silica in it.
i just put 2 huge sulfur reactor on the tank so if it is algae it should go away when my nitrates drop to zero right or it is not like green algae in that aspect. What is the best way to get rid of it?

Try a magic eraser. The foam is inert and acts as a mild abrasive that should wipe it away without scratching glass or acrylic.

That's not diatoms, looks like cyanobacteria. But that typically wipes off easily.
Perhaps the tank is etched or scratched at the bottom where the algae is. Thats what makes it hard to wipe away on my acrylic tank, gets stuck in the deeper scratches.

The tank is only been up for 6 months

It is not the right color the one in my tank is brownish, almost purple black. I have kept tanks for over the last 10 years and have never seen an algae this color and this hard to get off, it is like glued on it rally takes some scrubbing to get it off and i won't do it near the bottom of the tank because I don't want to scratch it.
Thank you for your reply

Here are some better pictures I know i suck at tellingvthe color of something but it looks purple and gray to me amd when I looked up cyanobacteria on the glass I got the picture below none of them look like what I have.
