Is a Penguin 150 enough filtration for my 20 gallon? My tank has 2 fantail goldfish in it. I change the water weekly. It filters my tank's volume 7.5 times an hour.

The reason I was wondering is because on Koko's Goldfish, they say that goldfish need 10 times filtration or 200 gph on my tank.

That sounds about right, but with regular water changes, you should be able to get by with 7.5. Next time.....make it ]V[onster!

I love ]v[onster, but I found Koko's first so that is what I went by on my 10 gallon, but I just now upgraded. Why doesn't the review section work?

since theres only 2 fish in there it should be ok, but goldfish can get messy, as long as the ammonia is low and the water is clear your good if not add another 150

Whats a goldfish?

Kidding....

I would agree 10 turns is better for goldfish, but points are well taken above. Only 2 fish... feed proper & partial the water when needed.

I use 2 pen 170s on my 46 with like 30 Kenyi & 10 Electric Yellows.. they are 1 ~ 3 inches each & the water keeps nice.

This equates to 7.4 turns, granted they are a little "cleaner" fish than gold but there are over 40 of them.

Just watch your water & add filtration if it gets needed.

What about an Aqua Tech 20-40 by Regent. Marineland makes them. They are the same as a Penguin 170 but it pumps 160 GPH and doesn't have a bio-wheel. I am sure since I have a Bio-Wheel already, it will be okay alone until my fish get bigger. 150 GPH is better that the 100 that some people put on their 20 gallon tanks. Have you guys ever noticed that if you buy the kit at a petstore that is in a box with all equipment included, that it doesn't have adequate filtration? Like the 20 gallon kit by All Glass that includes a Whisper 20 which is for 10-20 gallon tanks and pumps 105 GPH. That just isn't enough for me!!! That is why I never buy a kit!!! Kits aren't made with the Aquarist in mind!!! Anyways, I guess I will keep my Penguin 150 until it quits or my fish get bigger.
