I just got a new 300 gallon (8x30x2) the filtration i have already is:

2 x FX5's
1- Rainbow 900 Fluidized bed filter w/ Quiet One 1200 pump (296gph)
1- 21 Gallon Wet/Dry w/ Quiet One 4000 pump (1017gph)
1- Air disc, not sure what size the pump is on it.
.................................................................................................

My stock i'll have in the tank is:
1- Marble Motoro (12")
2- Superspot Motoro's (6-8")
1- Superspot x Hystrix (6-7")
1- Black Aro (10-12")
4- Severums (5-6")
1- FL Gar (12-13")
1- Indo Dat (9-10")

Yes i would think as long as you stock with some good media that the bio area will be great.

If it were me i would make the fx5's all mechanical and let the wet/dry and bed filter cover the bio.

You could allways add a couple of power heads to keep the debris suspended longer and give the filters a chance.

But at the same time if you are comfortable with the sump filter then it might be more beneficial to build one out of a 55g or 2 and get a really good pump.

that would also save you a bunch of money not having to buy those fx5's

you should have bought 1 or 2 Eheim 2262s. They can hold 18 liters of media or 4.8 gallons!!!!!!!

I've never used a Eheim before, but had lots of friends use the FX5's so that's kinda why i went that way.. I can't complain, they've done me right so far.. (knock on wood)..lol

Sounds the filration you have chosen will do well. As far as the cans go eheim or fx5 both great cans it's just a personal choice. I use them both and each one is a great filter.
