I have a 90 gallon tank with two Fluval 404s.In this tank is 12 african cichlids with top size being 5 inches and all wont get bigger than that, two peacock eels,1 featherfin cat,pleco,3 clown loaches. Is this enough filtration to keep them healthy?
I just added the second Fluval last night because i couldnt keep nitrates under 60ppm with two water changes a week.Ill test it again tonight and after thursdays water change to see if its helping. Thanks!
adding a second canister is not going to do anything for your nitrates.
the only way to keep them down is through water changes...and adjusting stocking/feeding levels accordingly..
the filters help with ammonia and nitrIte, but not nitrates, which are the end product of the nitrogen cycle in a normal freshwater tank. they must be removed via water changes..
I appreciate it 12 volt, your right.Ive considered getting rid of a couple but its just hard to do but i guess ill have to.I do two 30 percent water changes a week and its still not helping much.My biggest polluter is my feeding and the pleco.Hes absolutlely filthy and i dont have any algea becuase of all the water changes so do i really need him?
Also with the extra filtration and bio media they should at least be healthier correct?
I appreciate the ideas and reinforcement guys, ill cut back on feeding a bit and take the pleco to my LFS.Im tired of the mile long poops anyway, lol.Should i do a water change tonight and not feed for a couple days?or should i wait to my regular day and let the new filter mature a bit more?At least the new filter isnt hurting anything becaus i thing i was a little underfiltered anyway.I knew i over fed alittle to make sure everyone got some but i figured two water changes a week would go farther than it has been.I figured wrong. Thanks again.
