Hey guys I just bought this gar lookin fish today as a garfish maculata or something, but I don’t seem to find to much info about it...can anyone help me identify it and tell me more stuff about the species please?

Yeah we need a picture to really be able to help.
But, if it happens to be Boulengerella maculata then it’s not a true gar.

Looks like u got the rarer of the pike characins b. Lucius. Very cool pike characin. Like the other members have mentioned, not a true gar. Get it some floating vegetation and some current (powerhead). Will have to get it off of live food if not done already. Keep us updated on it.
Yeah it looks too thing to be a gar and it doesn't have the pectoral and anal fins a gar would have
