That should do it. It doesn't look like it would have a lot of capacity, but if it's not a large tank or heavily stocked it should be fine. Bio filtration isn't *THAT* complicated. Surface area+water flow+oxygen=Biofilter.

Thanks for your positive comment....can u explain biofilter in deep....i want to know about it......i am still confused Surface area+water flow+oxygen=Biofilter. What should i do to comolete bio filter

Simply put, your biofilter is just providing surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow on. The more beneficial bacteria you have, the more ammonia can be converted to nitrate within the same time period. And water flow is also important, because the more flow you have, the more water can be exposed to the bacteria and have it's ammonia content converted. So, as Rocksor suggested, the more white cermamic media you have (or any bio-media like plastic balls or cheap lava rock), the more capability your bio-filter has.

If you squeeze the gunk out of the white mechanical media (the stuff in the basket) in a bucket of some old tank water every couple days, instead of replacing it, a colony of bacteria will also grow in that media (and attach itself to the basket as biofilm).
I never switch out mechanical media until it starts to fall apart.
I also run my sumps much deeper, and use more biomedia.

Depends on your stock. Are you testing your water ? If your not registering ammonia/nitrite then your bio is up to snuff for now. As the fish grow their bio load will increase. I would do as the others said and add more ceramics.

Is that a sump resting on the center brace of the display tank ?

Hi All!
I'm just getting my salt water tank up and running. I have a 300 gallon tank with a 100 gallon tank used as a sump.
In the sump I have three chambers. The first chamber has filter socks connected to the drains. The water then goes through two big blue sponges.
In the second chamber I have my protein skimmer and then that green mossy stuff growing (chedda?)
In the beginning of the third chamber I have two of those porus blocks.
My first question is, do you think this is enough. Do you think the order is correct.
Second question I was considering using a large canister type filter in the garage but I don't know if that would just be complete over kill
I already have plumbing ran to make ro/di in the garage. I don't think it'd be a big deal to include a closed high pressure line to serve a canister filter.
I will post pictures eventually when I get this all the way up and running
I just want an outside opinion

Using lots of filtration is never overkill.
In nature there are many more cycles at work than just the nitrogen cycle that constantly help keep water quality high.
With a salt water tank, a protein skimmer (a form of physical/chemical filtration) is what I consider a necessity. I would use it along with the sump, and any other filtration method available. Just remember just because the bad stuff is filtered doesn't mean its out of the tank (except with the use of protein skimming).
If you don't clean the filters, all the undesirable stuff, is still in the water, just invisible to the naked eye creating chemical pollution.

You read my mind. Seeing that tank sitting on the center brace was the first thing I noticed. I don’t like the looks of that. It really needs to have its own supports.
