hey all. So some of my polys have some “shredded” fins. I’m not sure if this is fin rot or not. My nitrates have been 40-50ppm every 5 days despite doing 75% water changes. The algae and the dying plants are still a factor despite my best effort. Temperature has fluctuated a bit during water changes cause it has been very cold out when I’m adding the new water.

Is this fin rot or something else?

That looks like aggression from another poly. My koliba’s tail looks very similar from all the biting by the big endli. See how clean it looks, just like yours.

Here is a pic of my old gold dust with fin rot. Notice the tail, its white, raggedy edges. Yours are clean in comparison. Sorry for the bad pic, hopefully you can see it.

clm08k clm08k , another example of fin nipping by the endli. This was what my poor weeksii got from being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You have some fin nipping going on there, any ideas on who the culprit is?
If I had to take a gander...it’s probably my small moke due to her history . There’s also a split in the albino sen’s pec fin. (One of the polys who she hangs out with). However, the big moke nips at the small one when she acts up. So that would make sense with the personal space thing.

Thanks everyone for responding. Really appreciate it! The pics and descriptions were really helpful too.

What size is your tank? From my experience every instance where I have experienced fin nipping and aggression I have simply removed all ornaments/hides and just kept the substrate and the aggression stops or is severely reduced. I know you may not be too keen on this idea as I know you love your plants like a few poly keepers on here :)
