So I picked up some Poly Foam, made by ameri-foam.

Anyways do people know if this is safe for filtering? See photo. (It says nothing about fire resistant, or any chemicals at all.)

yup

It isn't that good if you have high flow rates. I bought that exact stuff from Michaels. I used it for a couple weeks but found that I had to clean it every other day. It is a super fine filter and works good for mechanical, but only if you have moderate water flow.

I was pushing 5200 GPH over a 21x19" area and the water would build up 2 inches on top before it could drain.

I use stuff like that too.
works ok, for me.
you can adjust thickness to your needs.

That was what I was planning on doing. I actually am going to filter through a sock first so that is likely going to have to be cleaned a lot.

But thanks all for the heads up on the slower filtering, but that it is safe for fish.

Is this OPEN CELL or CLOSED CELL foam?

Think you need open cell.

Eh I will try it out. It says breathable which makes me think it will be ok.
