Hey guys would two 1" holes drilled to a 135 Gal long tank be enough of a turnover rate for this size of a tank lets say both at max flow? Ill be over stocking lets just say with SA/CA cichlids. I have a large sump, but just wandering if this type of turnover is good or could be better...

I had a single 1" overflow on my 150, and a QuietOne 4000 return at full bore, with 4' of head. Overstocked w/ Aro's, O's and Pleco's on Shrimp, beefheart, crickets, pellets and worms, Water quality was never a problem...

Hmm really wow, and your water stayed crystal clear. Well the thing was my original plan was to get 1 1/2" but decided to downgrade it to 1" since it was the only thing available in my LFS. Anyways does the head height affect the speed of the water flowing down the same pipe? Because i would imagine that the gravity will be the same speed since it wont be too high...yet people claimed to have 300-600gph max flow through the same sized pvc (1").

head is just the weight of the water, verticle against the supply (pump)
My 1" outlet bulkhead was less than 2' above the wet/dry inlet on the side of my tank...

oh sorry i didnt mean to use the term head height but what i meant was people were claiming that they were getting a larger max flow rate when there tank is higher off from the sump/wet/dry, so is this true, compare to a tank not too far off yet water still heading down?

Also how much GPH you think your pump was doing at 4' head, including the 45/90 degree turns of your plumbing? Also was your bulk fitting fully submerged in water so its capable of reaching max flow...sorry btw for all the questions just trying to learn as much as i can lol. You seem to be the only one answering my questions so i thank you btw.

hmm well the water will be traveling 6' to reach my sump, using a flexible tubing, would this help to bring the water down faster to my sump or would it be the same using pvc? Im hoping to get a 10x turnover rate for my tank so ya. any chance of this happening with only two 1" holes. Even at max flow.

Well the pump is not so much of the problem its the pvc overflows. I'll have a mag 24 running so ya, the reason for the big pump is just incase i decide to upgrade my tank ill have one large enough. Also i plan on pumping some water back into the wet/dry tower, would this help in filtration and is there such thing as a sump water turnover type of thing lol. Since i probably wont be able to reach the amount of turnover rate within that main tank i can surely do it within the 60 Gal sump i have.
