Has anyone used this as their gravel for there tank? I am going to put black sand on the lower layer of the substrate then starlight black granite(size 1/8" to 3/8") gravel and black slate (1"-2") gravel on the top layer. This is a 8'Lx2'Wx20"H tank fully planted with drift wood and 2 48" Glo double t5 HO lights.

oh geeze im not sure what plants i have I just bought them from my lfs i have about 8-9 different species of plants and currently have them in my 75 gallon with 1/2"-3/4" peat gravel as the substrate and I fertilize with flouirish tabs and flourish excel liquid. The plants have been in my tank for about 4-5 months and grow very well i consistantly have to trim them because they get over grown

so either they'll just not grow or die. If you put a lot of root tabs in there then it may work out.
so not true. many people use inert substrate and grow plants fine. heck i have used pea gravel from lowes and grown tank full of plants. people use sand which also doesnt have any ferts in it and grow plants fine. i think you need to read up a little more and understand how things work.

should i put a Co2 system on my tank????
maybe. depends on what type of set up you are looking to do such has how much light over the tank and the plants you will be using.
