If you had a fish living by himself for awhile and you want to add a fish any chances it will work??

Your best chance would be to take out the original resident, rearrange the tank after a water change. Introduce the second fish and wait a few hours then add the first fish.

That being said there are still a lot of variables. What are the two fish and their respective sizes?

Yea I'm thinking I can't pull it off but its the dovii in my avi I saw a male Festae that I really liked and wanted to get so I was going to get him and few other fish so he wouldn't jump all over the Festae

I'm thinking no if you're talking about a Dovii. It's just going to be a matter of time before he doesn't allow ANYTHING in that tank(or near it) regardless of rearranging it.

+1 to jakes comment but not all dovii are outright killers at least that is my observation.

That's true but from what I've seen smaller fish usually don't stand a chance. I've got a friend with a 15" male Dovii and he has quite a few tankmates but they're all at least the size of the Dovii. But as with most species it comes down to the individual fish. Thanks for pointing that out mrmann. 👍

i would agree its the temperment of the fish, my dovii at 6-7 inches gets along well with the jags, oscars and jacks in with him
