Got a shipment of 14 large fish from a fish farm. Do these guys have ick? Neither the Mbenji or the Chitende have been flashing. The Chitende had pop-eye out of the bag which is almost cleared, but now I'm seeing some spots. The Mbenji looks like his skin is "peeling" a little. Not really a white spot though. Appetites are good and all other fish look fine. I've noticed 1 or 2 flashing on occasion, but nothing major.

Tanks is a 5ft 120g. 3m color quartz substrate w/ some cichlid sand. DIY rock wall. Parameters are: Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10, PH 8, GH is 12dh (213ppm), KH is 13dh (231ppm)

Thinking it was ick, yesterday I added extra salt and bumped the temp to 82 degrees.

Do you think this is ick or some fungal infection? Should I continue with the salt or try something else?

Thanks.

Here's the Mbenji Regal with what looks like "peeling"?

don't look like it. Just looks like moving scars. It'll heal in no time.

Really! Wheww. Even the Chitende (first 2 pics) You don't think it looks like ick? All 14 were in 1 bag. I shipped a very large order of around 40 fish, all around 4". Great looking fish, all made it in pretty good shape.

nah, honestly he just looks a bit scuffed up. if it is ich, the spots will multiply fast. plus ich is usually VERY white and noticeable. you will know when its ich.

If it's ich you should see little white spots on the fins most likely.

Either way what you are doing should treat the ich, or in this case as I see it a fish that got nibbled on.

That explains why your fish has graze marks. The fish can be moved to a hospital tank and do daily water changes there until it recovers. Add Melafix to aid with recovery and make sure to maximize oxygen levels when you treat as Melafix will deplete the fish of itx oxygen intake.

naw.. its not ick... u can see ick as small bubble on the skin of the fish.. but not transparent.. but actual white spot...

Looks like his scales are coming off from a fight... Since your tank is an african cichlid tank..... fighting between males is normal i'm sure...

only way to lower it is more hiding spots... or a bigger tank...
