:confused:Hi everyone,

I'm a first time gold fish owner, and have had this fellow for just over a week now. He lives in a 25L tank with 2 other small goldfish, 1 comet and 1 fantail and 6 cloud fish. I've been feeding them all goldfish flakes.

He seems happy, his scales are shiny and seems to swimming around happily. I've noticed these white spots on his back tail fin and was wondering if it is the dreaded Ick.

My head feels like it's crammed with all sorts of information after reading the Ick sticky and researching on the web, I'm completely confused as to what it is, Is it Ick or breeding stars or something else all together.

Sorry about the quality of the photo but if you look at his bottom tail fin, you can just make out a line of white dot like things....

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I can't really tell from the pictures, but it doesn't look like he has ich. How long has the tank been setup and what are the water parameters?? Fish are usually very lethargic if ich is truly the problem. It sounds like you have either; too high ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels, or the fish poked itself on something.

Hiya COG Commando, the tank has been set up for just over 7 days, it's a 25Litre desktop aquarium. I've been told that the tank is overcrowded, so I'm off to buy something bigger this weekend. In the meantime, I'll do a water change and see how that goes.

hard to tell from the pictures, but from what I can see it doesn't look like ich. With ich you'll see lots of small white spots every where and the fish will be acting really stressed.

Yeah sorry everyone, the pictures are not very good and I understand it would be hard to tell from them. There are no other white spots on his body that I can see and so far he doesn't seem stressed.

Will do a water change, get a bigger tank, water testing kit and watch them all carefully for now.
