When I moved into the house I'm in now, we found a box in the back shed with some plastic plants in it, along with these rocks. At the time, I didn't have a use for the rocks and I didn't think they'd be the greatest for my SA cichlids and I figured they'd raise the PH. I did use the plants however (score ;))

But now that I'm turning my 60 gal into an african tank (tanganyika specifically), I was thinking about buying some lace rock, and then I remembered that I had these out in the shed. Now, I'm no rock expert, so I'm not positive that these are lace rock, but I think they may be. I've taken some pictures and I hope that you guys could tell me whether or not its lace rock, and/or if its not, will it be suitable for a tanganyikan tank? Thanks to all ahead of time.

(NOTE: Sorry for the amount of pictures too)

im no expert on rock, but i would say get some water on it, like fill up a bucket and put it in the water and see what effects occur when in the water, it will simulate what will happen in your tank. thats what i do and 9 time out of 10, it works and my fish get that much happier!

not sure what it's "technically" called.. but looks just like my old SW live rock after it's been dried out, cleaned off, ect. or "nuked" as in all the living critters are more or less destroyed. which would buffer your PH up but Tangs like the higher PH. no matter what if you decide to use it give it a thorough soak and a few rinses before using it in the least. or toss into a bucket of water w/ a powerhead and dump some dechlor in. let it run a week.

first way should be fine... if your concerned about any chems ect then 2 is what i'de do.
