I think you can get a permit? It looks like an american aligator, not a camian. Its pretty common around here for people to keep them as pets (illegally with out a permit) for a little while. They cross the roads during heavy rains or droughts and aren't that hard to catch when little. I don't think they are really a species in decline anymore and as far as I know if a nuisance one is called into animal control its common place to destroy rather than relocate unless the animal is of substantial size. I hope it can still hunt and remember how to avoid predation when they get bored with it and run out of room.
 
I just think its messed up for people to own a pet alligator...what are they goign to do with it when it outgrows thier aquarium? Especially if they live in the north like a colder climate they cant just let it go....It would be a sweet pet...but just...not logical
 
this guy has moved it into some kind of crocodile room now which seems pretty big if u see his other vids. still i dont know how responsible it is but who knows
 
LOl larry the alligator i used to watch him all the time. I considered getting one but realized it was not a good idea.

As for outgrowing the tank the owner actually dedicated a room to him now he has it on another one of his videos its pretty cool. But as for legality i dunno how each state law is but where i am def not legal.
 
Yeah, its like owning a big tegu or monitor only worse because you need to incorporate the water element to it as well. Unless you can devote a good portion of your house to it (or yard in the south) its pretty illogical.
 
There is some guys for wich in my opinion owning a croc its legitimate, only a question of money and dedicacion. There is a few guys in the UK for example as well as in central europe that have build tropical greenhouses with pond because of their crocs:D:headbang2In that level of dedicacion I see no prob. But I do beleave they should be much harder to get and never in a pet shop, only pampered ,healty cb ones
