A friend gave me this baby forskahlii as a gift. When I placed it in my aquarium it doesn’t look like my forskahlii especially the tail. I’m guessing it’s a batf.

You're gonna need clearer pics for an id

Nope, that's a classic fatf. This one looks unusual because it's darker than normal for that size. Color itself can not be used for diagnosis of an ATF species, though it can be useful as a fast and loose way of getting an idea of the species you're looking at.

The giveaway here is the location of the dorsal fin as well as the pattern of melanin in the adipose fin.

The origin of the dorsal fin is waaaayyy ahead of the origin of the pelvic fins, a condition that occurs only in fatf. As to the adipose fin, it is an even grey color in the whole thing. In a batf, the adipose would be black at the center bottom and lack melanin along the circumference of the outer edge of the adipose fin, giving the appearance of a black fin with a light colored outer edge.

Then, there's the face. The eyes are too large and the jaws are too small. The body is also too long and thin.
